Calendar Journeys helps Year 1 learners use a real calendar to find event dates, put them in order and count the days between them. The unit uses September and October 2026 as a consistent date set: 4 to 11 September is seven days, while 30 September to 1 October is one day. Children test the idea that every month is four weeks and compare the actual lengths of September and October.
The sequence includes direct modelling, guided and independent practice, a partner Calendar Detective game, new-case rehearsal and an independent assessment. The teacher guide offers support with a labelled calendar and counters, mixed core tasks and a misconception-repair extension. Responses may be pointed to, explained aloud or written when appropriate to the skill.
