Something Easier

Explore a related unit from the year below.

Something Harder

There isn’t a close match for the year above yet.

Students use supplied calendar sources to find a full date and explain the number of daily moves from a start date until an arrival date. The unit progresses from constructing May 2027 to counting within and across months, then applying the same ideas to February and March 2028.

Students learn to read the weekday, date number, month and year; build and check calendar layouts; and determine days from a start date until an arrival date. Worked examples start at zero, count each new date once and include weekends. The sequence covers the same-date interval, row changes, seven-day and fourteen-day jumps, counting back, and continuing across a month boundary. February 2028 is checked from its supplied calendar; the unit does not teach a universal leap-year rule.

What's included

  • 56-page Unit Plan PDF: colour cover and contents, one Quick Start, five 45-minute lesson plans and 49 resource pages.
  • 24-slide editable teaching PowerPoint with worked examples, a native six-row calendar build grid, 31 separate date tokens and independently movable counting markers.
  • 22-slide editable quiz PowerPoint: ten questions, each followed immediately by its answer and a short explanation, plus opening and closing slides.
  • Four colour display references and five full source calendars: May, June and July 2027; February and March 2028.
  • Nine low-ink practice worksheets, each immediately followed by its red answer page.
  • Calendar Builders: instructions, a six-row mat, date tiles 1–31, three markers, four case cards and answers, and a record sheet with one valid example.
  • Calendar Boundary Lab: instructions, four cases across two pages with paired answers, and a reusable four-case record sheet.
  • Two formal assessment tasks with answers, two blank observation forms, a teacher marking guide and a four-criterion rubric.
  • Separate clean Table of Contents JPEG and a 102-page watermarked Preview PDF.

Learning focus

Read a full date with weekday, date number, month and year.

Build a month with each date once in its correct weekday column.

Count elapsed days from zero, including weekends and same-date intervals.

Use seven-day and fourteen-day jumps, and count back.

Continue an elapsed count when the date numbers restart in a new month.

Check the year, month length, weekday and counting method, and explain a correction.

Classroom use

Teach five 45-minute lessons. Select from the nine practice tasks to match support, core or extension needs rather than assigning every page. Use the supplied fictional classroom dates and named calendars. Adults prepare the cut-out pieces and read directions as needed. Print the full source calendars, mat and pieces at 100% actual size. Each practical kit serves two or three students and resets between cases. Ordinary pencils and adult-prepared scissors are the extra core materials.

Students may respond by speaking, pointing, drawing, using a communication device or asking an adult to record their response. Keep date selection, counting and checking with the student. Record access support separately from prompts that supply mathematics. Reading speed, cutting and handwriting are not assessment criteria.

Native date tokens and markers are moved by the teacher in PowerPoint edit view while students direct the action. The decks do not contain a slideshow drag-and-drop game. Keep answers hidden until students respond.

Teacher benefits

One concise Quick Start and five complete lesson plans support preparation.

All five full source calendars and practical kit pieces are included.

Nine practice tasks allow selection by current learning need.

Fifteen immediate answer/model pages support checking after responses.

Assessment separates access support from mathematical prompts and includes observation, formal tasks and a rubric.

Digital product and licence

Digital teaching resource; no physical item. PowerPoint is required to edit or move the native deck objects. A PDF viewer is required for the printable resources. Print kit pages at actual size. Follow Sukindi's store licence terms for use and sharing. The Preview PDF is watermarked.
