Healthy Messages and Everyday Choices - Year 1

Help children interpret health messages, explain what each message is trying to do and connect it to a practical action. Teach the complete core across Lessons 1-8, about 50 minutes per lesson. Lessons 9-10 provide useful optional practice after core teaching and assessment are complete.

Children notice where a message comes from, identify its audience, explain its purpose and connect it to a useful action. They compare community information with an invented advertisement, consider why a superhero picture is not proof, practise a handwashing sequence and rehearse protective choices and clear adult help requests. Fictional scenarios avoid requests for private health, food, sleep or family information. Choices stay respectful of different needs, culture, allergies and access.

Assessment and answers

Read prompts aloud. Children can point, gesture, speak, draw, demonstrate or use a communication board/device; an adult may scribe. Assess the explanation and practical action rather than handwriting or communication mode. The core includes two message-purpose explanations, a protective choice and a help request in a changed fictional situation. The quiz complements this practical assessment.

Formats and answers

Ten separate lesson PPTX files and one quiz PPTX have native editable text. The 44-page Unit Plan PDF contains the teaching plans and fixed printable artwork. The 168-page Preview PDF shows actual Unit Plan and lesson/quiz pages with the required watermarks. The Table of Contents is a JPEG. Three listing TXT files complete the 17-file package.

Read fictional cases aloud; provide accessible response options and use school safeguarding, hygiene and sun-safety arrangements. The materials ask for no purchases or private health, food, sleep or family histories. Digital download only; no physical item.

Teacher benefits
