Explore the question: How are families organised and how do people help one another? Students identify connections and responsibilities, ask respectful questions, read clearly labelled fictional source accounts, compare continuity and change, consider two perspectives, and explain a fair proposal with a reason.

Written source facts guide the discussion. Illustrations do not establish birthplace, feelings or every family role. Past/present conclusions stay tied to the two fictional accounts. Students can learn through these cases without sharing their own family circumstances.

  • Ten separate editable lesson presentations: 12 slides each, 120 slides in total.
  • One editable unit quiz: 24 slides, with 10 questions and corresponding answers, including application questions.
  • A 45-page Unit Plan PDF: contents page, 14 teacher planning/guidance pages and 30 resource/answer pages.
  • Two colour classroom displays, two colour case-card pages containing eight fictional source cards, and a three-page colour game with eight challenges and an Evidence Trail board.
  • Ten black-and-white learning records, each with a matching sample-answer page.
  • A two-page black-and-white assessment and a one-page rubric.
  • A 189-page watermarked Preview PDF showing the complete Unit Plan, all ten lesson presentations and the quiz in order.

Classroom use

Teach the full sequence as ten planned 60-minute lessons, or use the included eight-session route. Compact session 1 integrates Lessons 1–2; sessions 2–7 use Lessons 3–8; session 8 integrates Lessons 9–10. The guide identifies the relevant slides and activities rather than asking teachers to run two complete decks back to back. Comparison, individual explanation, transfer to a new case and a reasoned proposal remain part of the compact route.

Learning and assessment:

Students may speak, draw, point to pictures, use a communication board or device, gesture, or ask an adult to record their response. These choices preserve the learning expectations. Fictional cases let students participate without disclosing their own family circumstances. Assessment focuses on understanding, evidence and explanation rather than handwriting, confidence or personal disclosure.

The assessment combines a source-based comparison, an individual explanation, a new-case comparison and a fair proposal. Use the included rubric and a short conference to assess reasoning. The learning-record answer pages are samples; accept other accurate responses supported by the cards. Quiz answers are included.

Formats and answers

Ten editable lesson PPTX files (12 slides each; 120 total), one editable quiz PPTX (24 slides), Unit Plan PDF (45 pages), Preview PDF (189 pages), contents JPG and three listing TXT files; 17 canonical customer files.
