Elements Explorer Lab – Years 1–2

Use the contents page to locate the lesson decks, displays, technique cases, learning records, game, quiz and folio assessment. Elements Explorer Lab takes Years 1–2 students from practical trials to purposeful artmaking. Students create their own sampler on separate art paper, record what they observe and explain how a tested process informs an original artwork.

Ten separate lesson PowerPoints support the sequence: line laboratory; shape arrangements; colour mixing; texture processes; combine conventions; create the work; reflect and refine; folio assessment; optional combining of two tested processes; and an optional experiment-to-artwork study.

Lessons 1–8 are the complete eight-session core, with each lesson planned for 60 minutes. All essential teaching, making, reflection, quiz and assessment occur within the core. Lessons 9–10 are optional 60-minute studies and add no required assessment.

Classroom use

Provide suitable separate art paper, approved washable media, clean safe textured mats and school-approved tools. Plan drying and storage space. Read prompts aloud and accept drawing, pointing, gestures, practical showing, dictation, picture/symbol choices or a communication board/device. Practical assistance follows the student’s decisions. Sample answers model reasoning and allow justified alternatives.
