Something Easier

This resource begins at Foundation, our earliest year level.

Something Harder

Explore a related unit from the year above.

Days We Remember develops source-based explanations of family and community events. Children distinguish what people do from why an event matters, investigate a reunion invitation and account, compare two birthday perspectives, explore respectful remembrance and apply their ideas to a class reading celebration.

The ten-lesson sequence has a separate complete PowerPoint for every lesson. The reviewed eight-session route combines Lessons 1–2 and 9–10 with selected slides, guided tasks and assessment collection. All essential understanding and assessment are completed by session 8.

What's included

  • Ten separate editable lesson PowerPoints: 12 slides per lesson, 120 lesson slides in total.
  • One editable 20-slide unit quiz with eight questions and separate answer explanations.
  • A 59-page Unit Plan PDF with the teacher overview, preparation/source guide, ten complete lesson plans, eight-session route and assessment guidance.
  • Two colour displays, eight fictional source cards across two pages and a cooperative Evidence Trail game across three pages.
  • Ten black-and-white worksheets, each immediately followed by its matched red model-answer page.
  • Two assessment pages and a four-criterion rubric.
  • A 199-page protected Preview PDF showing the Unit Plan, all ten presentations in lesson order and the quiz.
  • A clean Table of Contents JPEG.

Learning focus

Event significance; celebrations and commemorations; useful questions; source clues and source limits; month/day calendar records; before/during/after sequences; respectful comparison; short evidence-supported narratives.

Classroom use

Teacher-led modelling, source-card discussion, cooperative groups of 2–4 for the Evidence Trail game, individual recording and a short teacher conference. The final calendar tile and retell explain who, why, date, sequence and a supporting source. Existing lesson evidence informs the rubric; handwriting or confident public speaking is not the learning standard.

PDF: Unit Plan (59 pages) and protected Preview (199 pages).

JPG: clean Table of Contents.

Illustrated student pages are embedded in the Unit Plan PDF; they are not supplied as editable worksheets.

Answers

Ten matched red worksheet model-answer pages immediately follow their worksheets. Quiz answers and explanations are in the editable quiz. Teacher game-response criteria and assessment guidance are included. Accurate alternative answers supported by the sources are accepted.

Teacher benefits

Complete teaching sequences and source-linked tasks; a compact route with explicit slide choices; flexible communication and recording options; aligned evidence collection; colour discussion/game resources with low-ink student records.

Digital product and licence

Page counts

59 Unit Plan pages, including 30 student-resource/answer pages and 28 teacher-guidance pages plus the contents page. The protected Preview contains those pages followed by all 140 lesson/quiz slides in order. Page counts describe separate files; the Preview repeats the content for inspection.
