Build It Better: Multiplication Strategies

Build It Better gives Year 3 students practical ways to solve multiplication facts that can feel difficult to recall. Each strategy starts with a familiar fact and shows how to rebuild the target fact: double 2× for 4×, double 3× for 6×, combine 5× and 2× for 7×, use repeated doubling for 8×, and subtract one equal group from 10× for 9×.

The teaching sequence combines clear modelling, worked examples, guided practice and independent application. Colour posters and games reinforce each pathway, while low-ink worksheets, exit tickets and assessment tasks make it easy to gather evidence of understanding. Editable PowerPoint files support whole-class teaching and review, and matching answer pages streamline marking.
