Help learners turn separate suggestions into a shared plan. Five 50–60 minute lessons teach children to connect a reply to an earlier idea, add a relevant detail, explain a suggestion using a fact, ask a helpful question and disagree respectfully.

Modelled dialogue and supported, core and extension practice lead into rotating roles and the four-round Idea Bridge game. Children discuss book sharing, nature drawings, a rainy-day activity and welcoming a new student. An unfamiliar Garden Observations task then provides evidence of each learner's discussion skills.

What's included

  • 52-page Unit Plan PDF: one contents page, one teacher quick-start page, ten lesson-plan pages and 40 resource pages.
  • Editable 18-slide PowerPoint teaching presentation.
  • Editable 22-slide PowerPoint quiz: title, ten question/answer pairs and a closing slide.
  • 92-page watermarked preview: complete Unit Plan, presentation and quiz in that order.
  • Table of Contents JPEG and three listing-information TXT files.

Resource pages include discussion displays, four role cards, helpful reply cues, four decision mats, 12 Idea Bridge reply cards and teacher key, full game rules, role-rotation mat, differentiated reply practice, reasons and question practice, group-plan and recap records, reflection, an unfamiliar garden task and two picture-fact pages, a group assessment record, an individual observation form and a three-level analytic rubric.

Learning focus

  • Connect a response to a specific earlier idea.
  • Give a useful reason using the supplied facts.
  • Ask a relevant question or offer a respectful different idea.
  • Contribute while carrying out a group role.
  • Record and check an accurate recap of the group's decision.

Classroom use

Use the five lessons as a short sequence for whole-class modelling, small-group rehearsal and observation. Copy a Group Plan for each game round. The garden assessment uses the supplied discussion pictures; it requires neither an outdoor visit nor a loose-card set. More than one decision may be workable.

The lesson plans include preparation, timings, model exchanges, guided and independent practice, differentiation and assessment checks. Learners may speak, point to meaningful picture or message choices, use a communication device or have an adult record their chosen response. Record the support used and assess each learner's contribution. Eye contact, accent, stillness and spelling are not success criteria.

Teacher benefits

Ready-to-use discussion contexts, a gradual practice sequence, complete four-round game instructions, differentiated reply tasks and an observation form that helps teachers record individual evidence.
