Year 5 Narrative Texts Unit
The Year 5 Narrative Texts Unit gives teachers a coherent sequence for moving students from close analysis to purposeful narrative creation. The editable presentation explicitly teaches narrative stages, tension, setting, sensory detail, character evidence, language choices, openings, conflict, resolution, viewpoint, cohesion and the writing process.
Collaborative laboratories and card-based challenges let students test ideas aloud before they write. Six focused worksheets then develop structure, characterisation, setting, openings, conflict and cohesion, each with a matching answer page. Planning tools, an editing checklist, the four-part “The Silent Station” assessment and a clear marking rubric support students through planning, drafting, revising, editing and reflection.
The editable quiz includes 10 true-or-false, multiple-choice and short-answer questions, each followed by an answer and explanation slide. Colour is reserved for displays and hands-on activities, while worksheets, assessment pages and the rubric use a low-ink format.
