Year 1 Summarising Unit

Teach a consistent, age-appropriate summarising routine across a full week of literacy learning. This Year 1 unit helps children stop and notice what a text is about, select the details that matter and retell the meaning briefly in their own words.

Fiction lessons and activities build beginning–middle–end and Somebody–Wanted–But–So–Then thinking. Non-fiction practice develops topic, main-idea and key-fact skills.
