Bring the Year 1 progression together in four new texts without introducing compulsory new code. Use the books and companion to notice where students can apply taught spellings independently and where further teaching will help.

This set connects four short books with practical phonics work. The paired editions use the same text and matching artwork, so you can choose Black and White or Colour for the reading session. The companion returns to the sounds and spellings used in the books through guided practice, word work and connected reading and writing.

Using the readers

Introduce the focus spellings and any words needing support. Model sounding out and blending, read a book together, then revisit it for accurate, smoother reading and discussion. Use the companion to link spoken sounds, written spellings and meaning. Support the activity directions as needed.

Readiness and placement

Use after the Foundation sequence and Year 1 Sets 01-27, with the current focus explicitly taught before independent reading. The year label describes the collection; choose the set using the student's taught code and current reading needs.
