Year 1 Length Measurement Unit
Help Year 1 students build a practical understanding of length through explicit teaching, visual comparisons, hands-on informal measurement and purposeful independent practice.
The editable presentation introduces length language, common starting points, equal informal units, end-to-end placement, no gaps or overlaps, careful counting, ordering and estimation. Three multi-page activities give students opportunities to build, match and compare lengths with partners. Five student worksheets move from visual comparison and ordering to informal measurement, equal-length reasoning and classroom measuring. A two-part assessment and five-level rubric support evidence gathering and clear feedback.
Colour posters, mats, cards and the game board are paired with low-ink black-and-white practice and assessment pages. Meaningful deterministic pages have matching red answer versions placed immediately after the student page in the unit plan.
