Using Calendars Unit - Year 2
Teach students how to read, create and reason with calendars through a clear sequence of explicit instruction, guided practice, hands-on activities, independent work and assessment.
Students identify the month title, weekday headings, ordered dates, weeks and event notes on a calendar. They order the seven days and twelve months, find events by date and weekday, construct a month from a stated starting day and month length, and count forward to determine the days between dates. The unit also develops reasoning with one-week and two-week offsets, changing month lengths and leap years.
The editable teaching presentation supports whole-class modelling and guided questions. The paired question-and-answer quiz provides immediate feedback. Colour classroom resources, Calendar Detectives and the Build-a-Month game add visual and hands-on practice. Five worksheet sequences provide focused independent work, followed by a fresh Calendar Quest assessment and a five-level teacher rubric.
