Types of Texts — Year 2 English Unit Plan
Help Year 2 students understand how texts are created for different purposes and audiences. This complete English unit develops students' ability to distinguish fiction from non-fiction, recognise texts that inform, entertain or persuade, navigate common non-fiction features, compare texts on the same topic and explain their own text preferences.
The sequence combines explicit teaching with sorting, matching, discussion, reading and writing tasks. Colour displays and hands-on activities support whole-class instruction, while low-ink worksheets, answer pages, an assessment and a five-level rubric make independent practice and checking straightforward.
