Summarising Unit Plan – Year 6 English

Help Year 6 students move beyond retelling and create concise, accurate and neutral summaries. This unit develops a practical four-step approach: identify the central idea, select essential evidence, paraphrase in the student's own words and preserve the author's meaning.

Students apply the strategy to fiction, informational and persuasive texts before recognising bias and synthesising ideas from two sources.
