Students count a collection, distribute one counter to each student in turn and check every share. They compare equal and unequal distributions, move existing counters to repair a share, and explain why the quantities are the same. The unit also teaches students to make full groups of a known size and distinguish the number of groups from the number in each.

Five complete 45-minute lessons move from small collections to practical cases up to 10. The sequence includes colour displays, worked models, spacious differentiated worksheets, two complete game kits and individual physical and virtual transfers. Teachers read the short prompts; students can respond through speech, pointing, drawing or directed adult recording.

Learning focus

Equal sharing • Equal grouping • Counting • Recognising small groups • Equal quantities • Keeping the total fixed • Explaining and checking

Classroom use

Open a working copy of the teaching PPTX in classroom Edit view for virtual tasks. The student moves the independent native counters or directs the teacher's movement. No additional app, account or internet connection is needed for these panels.
