Read Between the Words - Year 2

Read Between the Words uses original garden and picnic texts to teach children how nearby words supply an understood setting, action or object. Children explain short dialogue replies, compare full and shorter messages, and revise repeated wording while keeping people, objects and negative meaning intact.

Teacher modelling makes the reasoning visible: read the whole message, say what it means, point to the words that helped and check that the facts stay the same. Children also learn when a message needs an essential clue, using a supplied intended fact to make a clear repair. Reference words such as it and they provide supporting comparisons.

The unit moves from shared reading and supported practice to cooperative Clue Trail play, message composition and a fresh art-club assessment. The taught-example quiz supports retrieval without rehearsing the fresh assessment answers.
