Quarter-hour time becomes clearer when both clock hands move as they should. This unit explicitly compares quarter past with quarter to, showing the minute hand at 3 or 9 and the hour hand progressing between the current and next numerals. Children use a movable clock, read and draw new examples, practise with partners and explain why quarter to names the approaching hour.
The five 30–40-minute lessons move from a four-quarter model to quarter-past reading, quarter-to reasoning, adjacent-hour comparisons and independent explanation. Support uses a physical clock and labelled steps; core practice uses new mixed cases; extension asks learners to diagnose and repair a contradiction without adding untaught precision.
