Prepositions Year 4 Unit Plan

Help Year 4 students understand how prepositions and prepositional phrases connect ideas and add precise detail to sentences. This complete English unit combines explicit teaching with colourful reference displays, collaborative sorting, a task-card board game, differentiated printable practice, sentence expansion and an independent assessment.

Students learn to identify a preposition and its complete phrase, recognise the noun group or object that completes the phrase, explain whether a phrase adds where, when, movement or how information, and distinguish a prepositional phrase from a dependent clause.
