Poems with Rhythm and Rhyme - Year 2

Teach a complete five-lesson poetry week built around listening, repeating and making purposeful changes. Year 2 students hear repeated chunks and rhyming endings, reproduce short lines, then test how a new word or line changes the sound and meaning.

Four original short poems are supplied: Rain on the Path, The Garden Visitor, The Lunchbox Surprise and a fresh assessment text, The Kite in the Breeze. A separate two-line duck pattern supports reflection and transfer. The fresh assessment text is kept out of the teaching presentation and quiz.
