Patterns in the Environment gives Year 2 teachers a complete sequence for teaching additive patterns. Students begin by noticing what changes, then identify the starting amount, decide whether a pattern grows or shrinks, find the constant amount and use that rule to continue or reconstruct a pattern.
The editable presentation models additive patterns through numbers, shapes, objects, nature and transport. Colour displays, challenge cards, an exploration mat and the Pattern Path game support whole-class discussion, small-group teaching and partner practice. Nine black-and-white worksheet pages provide sequenced practice with visual patterns, number rules, missing elements, tables, a hundred chart and student-created patterns.
