Help Year 3 students investigate how a community changes, what continues and how people contribute. Students use the fictional Riverbend archive to ask questions, examine source origins, explain causes and effects, compare perspectives, create an annotated timeline and support a conclusion with evidence. They finish by explaining their findings and proposing a feasible community response.
The hall, bridge, bus route, shop and park provide a connected case study across the lessons. The Riverbend source cards are clearly labelled fictional classroom reconstructions. A credited Sydney Harbour Bridge example introduces a real Australian community change.
Teach the full ten-lesson sequence, or follow the supplied eight-session route. The compact route combines lessons 1–2 and 9–10 and completes the essential teaching and assessment within session eight. Every planned lesson has its own presentation.
