Teach nursery-rhyme comprehension through a clear sequence of listening, discussion, picture ordering, retelling, rhyme, rhythm and performance. This Foundation English unit helps children identify characters and important events, order ideas, use first-next-then-finally language and explain a rhyme’s beginning, middle and ending.

The editable presentation introduces nursery-rhyme features and models useful comprehension language. Print-friendly worksheets develop event sequencing, rhyme matching, cloze completion, beginning-middle-end retells, comparison and oral-performance planning. Colour action cards, puppets, picture cards and sequencing mats provide practical partner, small-group and literacy-centre learning.

Assessment uses an original Tilly Turtle rhyme to check rhyme recognition and event order, followed by a retell-and-perform task and five-level rubric. Eight matching answer pages support efficient checking of fixed-response work.
