Number-Property Problem Solvers — Year 6
Teach learners to translate a number clue, build a complete candidate set, test every condition and justify the result. This original Year 6 sequence uses the ambiguous “composite square between 20 and 40” clue to show that both 25 and 36 work, then adds “even” to make 36 unique. Pupils challenge false claims with counterexamples and regroup factors to simplify multiplication. The five-lesson path includes explicit modelling, guided decisions, independent practice, a partner game, transfer rehearsal and a fresh assessment.
