Mrs Wishy-Washy Foundation English Unit
The Mrs Wishy-Washy Foundation English Unit is a complete five-lesson learning sequence for teaching characters, setting, problem, solution, event order, oral retelling and simple story language.
Students explore the features of stories and different ways a literary text can be shared. They sequence events with colour cards, use first, next, then and finally, retell through puppets and dramatic play, collect favourite-character data, create a mini-book, complete story maps and construct simple sentences.
Large visual prompts, teacher modelling, oral response, tracing, drawing, cutting and sorting support Foundation learners. Core tasks develop story mapping and sentence construction, while Change One Event invites students to adapt part of the story and share a new version.
The two-page A Muddy Morning assessment uses an original lamb-and-farmer scenario to check story-element identification, picture-sequence retelling and creation of a different ending without relying on the familiar book context.
