Mental Addition Strategies Year 2
A complete Year 2 Mathematics unit with an editable presentation and quiz, colour games, printable strategy worksheets, answer pages, assessment and rubric.
Full Description
Mental Addition Strategies Year 2 gives students a flexible set of methods for solving addition problems efficiently and explaining their thinking. The teaching sequence begins with turnarounds, make-ten facts, bridge-through-ten thinking, doubles and near doubles, then develops adding ten, looking for tens, split strategy and jump strategy with two-digit numbers.
The editable PowerPoint presentation supports clear whole-class modelling and guided practice. A colour strategy display keeps the key methods visible, while Make Ten Match and Strategy Sprint provide collaborative hands-on rehearsal. Nine black-and-white worksheet pages offer sequenced practice, and each has a matching answer page.
The unit concludes with an editable ten-question quiz, a two-page Mental Addition Strategy Mission assessment, matching assessment answers and a five-level marking rubric. It is designed as a complete one-week sequence but can also be used selectively for maths groups, intervention, revision, homework or independent practice.
