Meaning Parts in Our Messages – Foundation
Meaning Parts in Our Messages helps Foundation learners build complete words from meaningful parts, read them in short messages and explain how each part supports meaning. Familiar examples such as raincoat, lunchbox, sunhat and bookshop make transparent compounds concrete, while cats, hats, dogs, cups and books show how regular s changes number without changing the familiar base.
The five-lesson sequence progresses from explicit models and worked cards to guided practice, mixed examples and non-examples, a purposeful Build-a-Meaning partner game, rehearsal, misconception repair and independent transfer. Learners test the meaning of a proposed split rather than relying on letters alone, including correcting the claim that carpet means car + pet.
The downloadable pack includes editable PowerPoint teaching and quiz files, a polished 25-page A4 Unit Plan PDF, colour displays and cards, low-ink student pages, six directly paired red answer/marking pages, a criterion-referenced rubric and a combined preview.
