Judging Characters with Word Clues - Year 3
Turn character labels into supported explanations. This unit starts with the difference between an action, a judgement and a descriptive fact, then models a simple routine: find a clue, choose a fitting word and explain the connection.
Four original stories provide mixed evidence about sharing, repairing a model bridge, checking a route and listening before a decision. Garden and wet-weather sports reports support balanced event evaluations. Students compare degree and viewpoint, interpret verbs and adverbs, revise unfair exaggeration and apply their learning to fresh Nia and book-swap assessment texts.
Each of the five approximately 45-minute lesson plans includes intentions, success criteria, preparation, timed teaching phases, resource references, differentiation and checks. Read-aloud, oral and scribed responses preserve the thinking target; supported choices and a two-view extension allow practical adjustment.
