Independent Spelling Choices - Foundation
Independent Spelling Choices gives Foundation learners a practical routine for spelling while they compose. Children say the message first, retrieve a confirmed known word when it helps, stretch an unfamiliar word to represent the sounds, reread the result and revise one specific part from evidence.
The unit uses lost-item labels, pet-care notes and play invitations to build transfer beyond a copied word list. It treats plausible early spelling as useful evidence and does not demand mastery of untaught digraphs or suffixes. Explicit modelling, guided choices, partner advising, rehearsal and a fresh assessment make progress visible without revealing answers before the learner's first attempt.
