This unit helps Year 2 children coordinate the two hands of an analogue clock. Teachers model 2:00 and 2:30, guide learners through new whole- and half-hour examples, then ask them to explain why the short hour hand moves between numerals at half past. A partner game, differentiated practice and an independent four-clock assessment provide repeated opportunities to show the idea.

Learning focus
Read and construct whole-hour and half-hour analogue clocks. Distinguish the long minute hand from the short hour hand; connect analogue, digital and spoken time; explain proportional hour-hand movement.
Classroom use
Five sessions of about 30-40 minutes. Model with a teaching clock, use cards and partner talk for guided practice, then assess four fresh clocks independently. Support with a physical clock and labelled steps; extend by repairing a contradictory clock without introducing untaught time precision.
Formats and answers
24-page PDF Unit Plan; 18-slide editable PPTX presentation; 26-slide editable PPTX quiz. Red answer pages directly follow the relevant student pages.
Teacher benefits
Shows both hands accurately at whole and half hours, provides a progression from modelling to independent evidence, and includes teacher marking guidance.
