Handwriting for Everyday Messages - Year 1
Handwriting for Everyday Messages helps Year 1 learners transfer secure letter formation into useful writing for a real reader. Children practise baseline alignment, clear word spaces, recognisable unjoined forms and a comfortable pace while creating desk labels, friendly notes and classroom instructions.
The unit includes five equivalent pathways for NSW/ACT, VIC/WA/NT, SA, QLD and TAS. Learners select the model used in their state or territory, rehearse difficult words, write without copying a complete message, receive specific reader feedback and repair one readability problem. The sequence finishes with a fresh purposeful message and an evidence-based next step rather than a speed or neatness score.

Classroom use
Designed for five 30–40 minute lessons, with shorter literacy or motor-practice bursts as needed.
