Students move from naming cube faces and edges to predicting, building and explaining which connected six-square arrangements form a cube. They compare a valid cross net with a straight row and a 2-by-3 block, test closure and overlap, separate glue tabs from faces, and justify a new working net using the evidence of a real fold.

The teaching sequence includes a colour display, 12 model cards, three folding-log practice pages, a 12-card valid-or-overlap partner investigation with teacher keys, two rehearsal pages, an independent assessment and a learning-evidence rubric. Student practice, rehearsal and assessment have matching red answer or marking pages. A two-page teacher guide gives the five-lesson sequence, equipment and support, core and extension routes.

What's included

  • 26-page A4 Unit Plan PDF, including the table of contents, teacher guide, classroom resources, answer pages, assessment and rubric.
  • Editable 18-slide PowerPoint teaching presentation.
  • Editable 26-slide PowerPoint question-and-answer quiz.

Learning focus

Recognise faces and shared edges; predict whether a six-square net will close; physically test it; explain overlap or closure; design and justify a valid cube net.

Classroom use

Teach the five-lesson sequence or use selected cards and folding tasks for small-group investigation and whole-class review. Prepare equal-square paper or card, scissors and tape or glue for supervised testing. Provide a larger ready-cut net and physical cube for support; ask students ready for extension to revise and justify an arrangement.

Formats and answers

Unit Plan PDF: A4, 26 pages. Editable PowerPoint presentation: 18 slides. Editable PowerPoint quiz: 26 slides. Matching red Unit Plan answer pages and quiz answer slides are included.

Teacher benefits

The sequence asks students to test, observe and explain a fold, then apply the same reasoning to a new net. The teacher guide and rubric support targeted follow-up from each student's evidence.
