Our Classroom Collections — Foundation Data Sorting Unit

$4.99

Give young learners a concrete way to answer a data question. Children hear “Which kind of tool is most common in this tray?”, agree to sort by each tool's main use, place every tool in one group, compare the group sizes and explain their conclusion. The five lessons move from teacher modelling and guided practice to partner play, fresh transfer and independent assessment.

What's included

  • 25-page Unit Plan in editable PPTX and PDF, including a three-page teacher guide, colour display, four pages of tool model/practice cards, three practice worksheets with immediately following red answer pages, a three-page sort-once partner game, two transfer worksheets with immediately following marking pages, an independent assessment and marking page, and a four-criterion evidence rubric.
  • Editable 18-slide teaching presentation PPTX.
  • Editable 26-slide quiz PPTX with 12 question/answer pairs and reasons.
  • 69-page Preview PDF and a separate Table of Contents JPEG.

Learning focus

Sort a physical or picture collection using one agreed observable rule; record each object once; compare more, fewer or same; answer a given question using counts or matching evidence.

Classroom use

Five 30–40-minute sessions. Use real objects or picture cards, category mats and a tally/record sheet. The teacher guide includes equipment, model answers, access supports, core work and a duplicate/missing-record extension. Spoken or pointed explanations can show the same mathematics as written responses.

Answers

Red marking pages directly follow each practice, transfer and assessment sheet. Quiz answer slides explain the result.

Teacher benefits

Supports concrete sorting, one-to-one recording, comparison and an evidence-based explanation. It includes a fresh independent task and an observable-criteria rubric.
