Embedded Clauses in Stories - Year 6
Pupils follow original short episodes to find a clause, name the noun it expands and explain what it helps a reader understand. They distinguish a phrase from a clause containing a complete verb, compare identifying detail with additional information, and choose commas from the context. Repairs keep the episode's known facts and unanswered questions. Pupils then write their own coherent ending with useful clauses and short action sentences.
The sequence uses The Last Bubble, The Missing Label and Small Stage for teaching and practice. Reader Detail Check adds 12 cases; Story Detail Workshop adds 16 numbered colour cards and an individual four-choice record. A fresh episode, The Last Panel, supports independent analysis, repair and a 60–100-word ending. Two different teacher models show that pupils may make different plausible plot choices.
