Creating Narrative Characters – Year 1
Creating Narrative Characters helps Year 1 students understand how authors and illustrators reveal a character through physical appearance, personality, actions, thoughts, dialogue, words and pictures.
The sequence begins with visual references and explicit teaching. Students then sort and infer traits, distinguish feelings from characteristics, interpret character clues, connect words with illustrations, plan profiles and settings, and create an original narrative character. Colour games and collaborative activities provide oral-language practice, while differentiated pages support independent work and assessment.
