Connecting Year 6 English Unit helps students use meaningful text-to-self, text-to-text and text-to-world connections to deepen reading comprehension.

Students learn to support connections with evidence and explain how they improve understanding. They progress from recognising the three connection types to judging the quality and relevance of a connection, comparing strong links with surface-level responses, examining perspective and bias, synthesising ideas across texts and evaluating whether a connection genuinely deepens meaning.

Fiction and nonfiction prompts provide varied opportunities to discuss, write and justify thinking across explicit teaching, guided groups, partner work and independent practice.
