Compare Texts and Explain Your Choice - Year 2

Move from modelled night-sky comparisons to precise, respectful choice language, playground-story comparisons, a cooperative partner game and a fresh bee-text assessment. Children use liked, enjoyed, preferred and “both, but…”, identify actual features, check invented details and explain why a text may suit another reader. Classroom use

Five lessons of approximately 45–55 minutes, with flexible reading time. Complete core texts are supplied. Read aloud in small chunks. Children can speak, point and explain, draw/label or write; an adult may record their exact words. Use the fresh assessment before showing models. Neutral reading/recording support is distinguished from an adult choosing the detail or supplying the reason.
