Students investigate pencil, button and clip collections while keeping every source object once. They make faithful lists, drawings, symbols and grouped tallies, retain zero categories and explain why a different record should keep the same counts.
The teaching sequence combines explicit models, guided practice, selected worksheets and cooperative games. Students also participate in an actual editable digital record. Record Rescue asks students to prove an omission, duplicate, category mix-up or incorrect heading against an unchanged source.
Learning focus
Choose an object-kind question; acquire a small collection; preserve each source ID; sort by kind; record in more than one useful way; use grouped fives and zero correctly; participate in digital recording; compare category counts and total against the source; explain a useful method improvement.
Classroom use
Use the five-lesson sequence with selected practice pages and up to three game cases per session. Prepare one bank and sorting mat per group. An adult cuts the cards. Print the bank and mat at 100% actual size and reset all cards between cases.
Use teaching slide 12 in normal teacher-controlled PowerPoint edit view. Edit the question/source-ID list, set token IDs to the actual collected cards, place one token per object, enter the counts and total, and check against the tray. There are 12 independently movable tokens and 12 destinations per kind. Students may direct an adult move; no macros, slideshow dragging or external account are required.
Support includes smaller collections, adult reading/recording, speaking, pointing, pictures and a communication device. Extension offers another method, question or explanation. Observe actual collecting and digital choices; a completed printed model or quiz percentage does not establish practical performance.
Teacher benefits
Source IDs make omissions and repeated entries traceable.
Different recording methods use the same collection.
Zero and same-total errors are taught explicitly.
Reusable games include their needed mat, bank, source cases, roles and records.
Assessment combines provided-data recording with a fresh practical collection and observed digital choices.
Digital product and licence
Digital download; no physical item. The digital record needs an editable PowerPoint environment and adult setup/control. Classroom use under the applicable purchase licence; redistribution, resale and public sharing of the downloadable files are not included.
