Class News Reporters - Foundation

$4.99

Give learners practical opportunities to turn familiar events into reports for their classmates. Children choose meaningful news, select or draw useful picture cues, rehearse their own words and check what listeners heard. Shared class news is a complete option alongside personal news; clearly labelled story news is also welcome.

The week moves from a class mural model to detail selection, cue planning, rehearsal and a fresh or shared news report actually delivered to peers. A gentle original windy-picnic story supports labelled story news and different relevant responses. Each lesson includes explicit modelling, guided and substantial learner practice, differentiation, observation, closure and next teaching steps.

What's included

  • 44-page Unit Plan PDF: contents, two teacher-guide pages, ten pages covering five complete lessons and 31 resource pages.
  • Four colour routine displays and two worked models.
  • 18 event picture cards in six sets: mural, planting, building, tidying, collage and puzzle.
  • Two detail-choice sheets with model keys, two cue mats, an audience practice mat and six helpful listener cards.
  • Cooperative News Route board, rules/action cards and a news-sharing mat.
  • Five black-and-white worksheets, each followed by its matching red answer or model page.
  • Assessment preparation page, actual-report observation record and three-stage descriptive rubric.
  • Editable 22-slide PowerPoint teaching presentation.
  • Editable 22-slide PowerPoint quiz with ten question/answer pairs, cover and closing slide.
  • Full 88-page watermarked Preview PDF and clean Table of Contents JPEG.

Learning focus

Create event news; select connected details; use helpful visual cues; rehearse a learner-owned message; communicate to peers; check what listeners heard and adjust when needed.

Classroom use

Use across five flexible lessons of approximately 35-45 minutes, with pairs, small groups and optional follow-up centres. Assess an actual report delivered in a suitable setting. A completed plan or quiz alone is not delivery evidence. Teacher guidance supports EAL/D, familiar-language preparation, AAC, adult scribing, extra wait time, quiet spaces and familiar partners.

Formats and answers

PDF, editable PPTX, TXT and JPG.

88 teaching pages/slides: 44 Unit Plan pages + 22 presentation slides + 22 quiz slides. The 88-page Preview repeats the material and is not an additional teaching count.

Five matching worksheet answer/model pages. Fixed choices are answered; open reports and reflections have clearly labelled possible models.

Teacher benefits

Familiar class events allow participation without private family disclosure or special objects. Picture cues and repeated peer practice support the reporting process. The observation record captures the actual message, audience, supports, listener evidence and a useful next step.
