Choose the Word, Check the Meaning - Year 3
Read the whole sentence. Think about its meaning. Choose the word, write it and check it. This English unit makes that routine visible through spoken models, meaning references, contextual choices and purposeful writing.
Students practise hear/here, ate/eight, their/there, to/too/two, no/know, new/knew, right/write and break/brake. They explain a spelling choice, repair a genuine error and keep correct language unchanged. The references also show both meanings of too, action and direction uses of to, and alternative meanings of right and break.
The five-lesson sequence builds from support and guided practice to an original classroom message and a fresh independent assessment. A cooperative Context Partners game uses 12 cue/check pairs, with both students writing on each turn. The original Class Garden Note offers four errors to repair and three correct uses to keep.
