Chance Investigators Report Back — Year 3

Students become chance investigators as they design, repeat and explain a simple counter-draw experiment. They name possible outcomes, use a consistent draw–record–replace–mix method, tally two 20-trial runs and compare their records. The learning focus is clear reporting: what did the evidence show, and what can a short run not prove?

The unit centres on a bag containing three blue and two yellow counters. Fictional records of 13 blue/7 yellow and 10 blue/10 yellow provide contrasting examples without implying that actual results must be equal or match a fixed ratio. Students then plan and record their own trials, discuss a partner activity, complete transfer tasks and report a justified finding with a stated limit.
