Blending Blitz Year 1 Phonics Unit
A complete Year 1 phonics unit for teaching blending, common vowel spellings, digraphs and phoneme manipulation through explicit lessons, printable practice, games and assessment.
Blending Blitz helps students move from supported sound-by-sound blending to more independent word reading and spelling. The teaching sequence develops left-to-right blending, sound-button use, consonant blends, common digraphs and vowel spellings, familiar two-syllable words, and oral phoneme addition, deletion and substitution.
Teachers receive an editable 19-slide lesson presentation and an editable 22-slide quiz with 10 question-and-answer pairs, together with a 58-page unit plan. Colour displays, reusable sound mats, cumulative card sets and two differentiated board games support whole-class teaching and literacy-centre practice. Eleven low-ink worksheet pages provide sequenced independent work, with 13 matching red-answer pages covering the worksheets and assessment. A two-page assessment and five-level rubric provide clear end-of-unit evidence.
