Bare Assertions Year 5 Unit

Bare Assertions helps Year 5 students move from unsupported claims to clear, credible opinions. Students learn to identify bare assertions, distinguish supported and unsupported statements, add reasons and evidence, refer to general and specific sources, and temper overconfident language.

The unit supports explicit whole-class teaching, guided practice, independent work, revision and assessment. It combines an editable PowerPoint presentation and quiz with a 26-page printable unit plan containing a colour display, reference card, activity, game, five named worksheet sets, matching answers, a two-page assessment and a five-level rubric.
