Students distinguish political-map purposes from continuing Country/Place relationships; locate the six states and two principal mainland territories studied and Indonesia, Timor-Leste, Papua New Guinea and New Zealand; explain a sourced Gunditjmara relationship at Budj Bim; and compare Budj Bim and Bali by location, climate, vegetation and water management. They separate observations from inferences, qualify conclusions, consider missing viewpoints and propose an evidence-based improvement to a fictional visitor panel.

What's included

  • Ten complete lesson plans with preparation, timings, support, extension and evidence checks.
  • An eight-session route that combines Lessons 1–2 and Lessons 9–10 while keeping essential teaching and assessment.
  • Two colour classroom displays; eight case/source cards on two pages.
  • Cooperative Evidence Trail: rules and worked turn, landscape mat and eight challenge cards.
  • Ten low-ink worksheets, each immediately followed by its matching red model-answer page.
  • Two-page atlas evidence, explanation and transfer assessment; four-dimension, three-level rubric.
  • Teacher source/use notes, assessment guidance and all ten quiz explanations.

Learning focus

Political maps and Country/Place; Australian states and territories; nearby countries and direction; continuing connections and care; climate, vegetation and managed landscapes; observation, inference, sources and viewpoints; evidence-based conclusions and responsible representation.

Classroom use

Ten 60-minute lessons, or the mapped eight-session route. Combine Lessons 1–2 in Session 1 and Lessons 9–10 in Session 8, retaining essential content and all assessment criteria. Students reuse their map and evidence folio. Evidence Trail supports cooperative retrieval and explanation. Students can speak, draw, write, dictate, point or use a communication device. The guide offers support and extension choices while keeping the same learning criteria. Assessment judges understanding and reasoning, with a folio and conference supporting the two assessment pages.

Teacher benefits

Separate lesson files make the teaching sequence easy to use. Consistent comparison headings support reasoned similarities and differences. Matching models help teachers check evidence without imposing one wording. Both teaching routes retain complete assessment. Source-use notes distinguish original illustrations, licensed material and teacher-view references.

Digital product and licence
