Year 2 Poetry Unit

Help Year 2 students listen like poets, write with purpose and share their work confidently. This classroom-ready unit explicitly teaches rhythm, rhyme, repetition, syllables and imagery before introducing haiku, shape poems, tanka, acrostics, cinquains and limericks.

Students compare poetic forms, practise sound patterns through hands-on games, analyse short original poems, plan and draft structured poems, revise word choice and sound, edit their work, rehearse a performance and complete a curriculum-aligned assessment.
