Year 1 CCVCC Words Unit

Help Year 1 students build secure five-sound word knowledge with a structured CCVCC phonics unit. Students work with words such as plant, stamp, drink, blink, crust, frost, bricks and blocks. Explicit examples show that five phonemes do not always mean five letters: the two letters ck can represent one sound in a word such as bricks.

The teaching sequence moves from listening and oral blending to sound mapping, reading, sorting, spelling and sentence application. The editable presentation supports clear whole-class modelling. Colour games and activities provide repeated practice through cards, puzzles, a chatterbox and two I Spy sets. Six black-and-white worksheet sets offer 15 student pages, each followed by a matching answer page with red answers.

The two-page Word Detective assessment checks matching, middle vowels, phoneme segmentation, picture spelling, starting blends and sentence use.
