Year 1 Adjectives Unit
Help Year 1 students understand how adjectives add clear detail to nouns. This classroom-ready unit combines a carefully sequenced 16-slide teaching presentation with colourful oral-language activities, black-and-white printable practice, a 10-question editable quiz, assessment answer pages and a five-level rubric.
Teaching begins with noun review and a simple definition of an adjective. Students then explore colour, size, shape, feeling, texture and sensory details; compare opposite adjectives; distinguish nouns, verbs and adjectives; and use describing words to improve noun groups and sentences. The Adjective Hunt and Describe and Guess resources build talk and vocabulary, while supported and independent worksheets provide an accessible path from guided practice to individual application.
The two-page Adjective Explorer Assessment checks identification, word choice, sorting and sentence use. Matching red answer pages make review clear and efficient, and the rubric supports consistent teacher judgement.
