Three Names for the Same Amount - Year 5
Students learn to explain how familiar fractions, decimals and percentages can represent the same amount of one whole. The lessons move from a quick diagnostic and explicit models to guided practice, a partner non-match game, transfer rehearsal and an individual assessment. Students compare mixed forms on a shared 0–1 line and give a reason using hundredths or an equal-part model.
What's included
- 25-page PDF unit plan with a three-page teacher guide.
- One colour display, four pages of colour equivalence cards and a three-page colour game.
- Three black-and-white practice sheets and two rehearsal sheets, each followed immediately by its matching answer page.

Learning focus
Complete equivalence triples such as 1/4 = 0.25 = 25%, compare relative sizes using the same whole, order 1/4, 0.3 and 50%, and justify the order on a shared number line. A misconception example distinguishes 0.5 from 5% and shows why a named whole matters.
Classroom use
Five 45–60-minute lessons; whole-class modelling, partner discussion/game, independent written or accessible oral responses, then criterion-referenced assessment.
Formats and answers
Digital PDF unit plan, 25 pages; editable PPTX presentation, 18 slides; editable PPTX quiz, 26 slides. Six matching worksheet/assessment answer pages and a teacher game key are included.
Teacher benefits
Ready lesson sequence with explicit models, ample student response space, reasoned answers and an evidence rubric that identifies a next teaching step.
