Spinners and Trial Records – Year 3
Guide learners through a repeated chance experiment using a fair four-sector A–D spinner. They name the possible outcomes, follow a consistent boundary re-spin rule, record completed trials, check two run totals, compare category counts and explain why short runs can differ without changing the spinner.
The five-lesson teacher guide sets out equipment, modelling, guided and independent tasks, access options and evidence to collect. Colour resources include a display, 12 model/practice cards and a predict–record–compare partner game with rules, six challenge cards and a two-run recording mat. Low-ink practice pages progress from guided to independent and transfer work. Two-run rehearsal, claim repair and a fresh final assessment provide opportunities to apply the learning. Six matching answer pages and a learning-evidence rubric support marking.

Learning focus
Name all four possible outcomes; use an unchanged spin and boundary rule; record each actual completed result once; compare two complete runs with counts; explain observed variation without claiming that unequal short-run counts prove unequal sectors.
Classroom use
Use across five 45–60-minute lessons. The materials include partner discussion and game play, guided and independent recording, and an individual evidence-based assessment. The teacher guide describes support, core and extension routes.
Teacher benefits
The included teacher guide, model cards, practice progression, game, answer pages and rubric support a complete week of teaching and let teachers observe whether learners can justify a comparison using recorded evidence.
