Say It, Stretch It, Try It - Foundation English Unit Plan
Say It, Stretch It, Try It develops Foundation learners' ability to represent the complete sound sequence in unfamiliar but orally known words. Children say the word and its meaning, stretch every sound, map one sound to each position, choose taught or plausible graphemes, then reread and repair their attempt. The sequence makes missing sounds and sound-grapheme mismatches visible through precise examples, including ship, shp and sip.

Learning focus
Say an intended word and its meaning; stretch and count sounds without letter names; map one sound to each position; choose taught or plausible graphemes; reread and check that every sound is represented; explain and repair a missing or mismatched sound; transfer the routine to a short purposeful message or label.
Classroom use
Use across a five-lesson teaching sequence for whole-class modelling, guided practice, literacy rotations, the Spelling Clinic partner activity, independent rehearsal and individual assessment. Support, core and extension pathways retain the same spelling target.
Formats and answers
Digital PDF and editable PowerPoint files. The core package contains 69 pages/slides: 25-page Unit Plan, 18-slide presentation and 26-slide quiz. Six matching answer/marking pages are included immediately after their student pages; quiz answers follow each question.
